Ontology of Holes

Function : Installation

This art installation project explores ontology of architectural holes that cannot be reduced to pure functional aspects such as ventilation, lighting, transportation, etc.
The holes on the upper part smoothly merge into the walls behind while the holes on the bottom part are autonomous thus the whole object becomes continuous at the same time discontinuous. Self referential structure by its formal symmetry gives a viewer a sense of alienation, yet mirrored stainless frames around the holes reflect the viewer and allure them.
The surfaces of the holes are covered by fluorescent pink colored fake fur and metallic silver painted artificial rocks. Fakeness of those materials emphasizes the strangeness of the holes.
